Side-by-Side burn video from the Common Voices and NFSA taken by Fox News during Fire National Fire Prevention Week November 2018. The fire sprinklers put out the fire in under 90 seconds with minimal damage to the room. It also talks about the importance of closed doors in preventing the fire from spreading.

Often when we think of fire protection, we think of sprinkler systems for commercial buildings. At the same time, one of the most important places we should consider is our homes – the place where ourselves and our loved ones reside. Many people think that a smoke detector is enough of a warning, but this is rarely the case. A lot of people ignore and sometimes even disable smoke detectors, like when the battery is low or after burning toast in the kitchen. Even if a smoke detector is in perfect working order, it can take volunteer fire fighters 6-8 minutes to reach the site of a fire and by that time, it can be too late.

Approximately 2500 people die each year in home fires which is about 80 percent of all fire related deaths. In 2019, five children died in a home day care center right here in Erie County. These deaths could potentially have been avoided if a sprinkler system had been installed.

Another common misconception is that newer homes are more “fire-proof.” While it is true that older structures can have out of date wiring and other things that can increase the risk of a fire. New homes tend to have more open floor plans, are constructed with lighter weight materials with modern furnishings — many of which contain plastics. All of these things can cause a fire to spread rapidly and increase smoke toxicity. This is why it is important to safeguard yourself and your property with reliable, effective fire protection solutions.  In multiple instances, we have revisited residential establishments where sprinkler systems that we installed successfully extinguished fires, saving lives, and preventing property damage.
