Project Description

The Allegheny Health Network underwent a construction addition at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa. With the help of the plumbing BIM specialists at Wm. T. Spaeder Company, AHN created a new, state of the art cancer center on the Saint Vincent campus that will provide residents of Erie, and its neighboring communities, with a comprehensive level of cancer care that is unprecedented in the region. As part of the AHN Cancer Institute, the new facility at Saint Vincent will provide a wide array of clinical and support services for cancer patients. These services include state of the art radiation oncology capabilities, medical oncology and infusion therapy, nutritional counseling, social services, and access to clinical trials. The new construction was designed around enhancing patient comfort, reflected by features such as more natural light, softer colors, and creating an ultimately more comfortable and calming environment for patients and their families.

Wm. T. Spaeder team are experts in healthcare BIM, and we utilize the process of Building Information Modeling for a number of our projects. BIM uses intelligent, 3D models to provide our professionals with the tools and insight to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage our projects. Healthcare BIM is imperative for optimizing the performance of heating and ventilation within healthcare facilities. Through Virtual Design Construction (VDC) and Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Wm. T. Spaeder has reached new levels of plumbing project flexibility, tapping into processes like retrofitting and re-engineering. Also at our disposal is FARO Technologies, a brand of tools we use for 3D measurement, imaging, and realization, alongside Microsoft’s HoloLens virtual-reality hardware and Trimble modeling applications.
