PROJECT ENGINEER JOB SUMMARY

Knowledgeable about the construction process, highly detail-oriented, and communicative. They
need to be problem solvers, quick learners, and excellent technical writers. The Spaeder Project
Engineer is a construction liaison between office personnel, field staff and external contractors and
engineers. They need to know commercial construction, industrial piping, process systems and be
knowledgeable about projects budgets and costs related to all services.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, execute, and finalize projects or assigned portions thereof according to deadlines and within budget
  • Review post award contract documents, including drawings, specifications, addenda, Prebid
    RFI’s, Spaeder proposal, etc.
  • Work with purchasing department on project material buy-outs.
  • Work with the project manager on developing a purchasing schedule to maintain project
    schedule.
  • Develop project submittals based on materials required.
  • Purchase nonstock/non-rough materials for project, while balancing lead times with project
    schedule.
  • Review scope and negotiate final terms with subcontractors.
  • Prepare and execute subcontractor change orders throughout the course of the project.
  • Work with project manager and field staff throughout project duration to ensure timely
    deliveries to jobsite.
  • Monitor any backorders and notify project staff for evaluation of criticalness of delivery.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, patience, and efficiency to minimize customer
    dissatisfaction and increase customer loyalty.
  • Coordinate with VDC regarding required information for modeling.
  • Attend Kick-off meetings.
  • Develop and maintain material matrix as applicable.
  • Prepare equipment purchase orders in conjunction with Project Manager and Purchasing.
  • Manager submittal process to include Procurement, preparation, and review for
    compliance.
  • Submit coordination drawings
  • Manage vendors with Project Manager and Purchasing.
  • Prepare RFIs with Project Manager.
  • Establish equipment startup requirements with Project Manager.
    • Track start up reports – submit to vendors
    • Track test reports
    • Document commissioning if required
  • Prepare warranty letters, as-builts, O&M’s for project close-outs – with Project Assistant.
    • Submit to owner, A/E.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience.
  • Previous experience in the mechanical contracting industry (3-5 years preferred.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a standard office
    environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Standard work hours: 7:00-3:30pm, Monday-Friday
